Interior Design Berlin 2026: The change at Schwalbennest will be impressive

When you think of interior design in Berlin, industrial lofts, minimalist concrete, or classic old buildings often come to mind. But in the heart of the Nikolaiviertel, something is currently taking shape that transcends these categories. The historic „Schwalbennest“ (Swallow’s Nest), once a symbol of East German gastronomy, is being transformed into The Blue Pearl. What’s happening here is more than a renovation—it’s a metamorphosis. We’ll take you on a journey through this „architecture of fantasy“ and show you how 934 square meters of concrete are being transformed into an ocean palace of light and gold.

When History Meets Avant-Garde

Interior design in Berlin is often shaped by the city’s eventful history. History also plays a role for us, but we reinterpret it. With its massive walls and high ceilings, the building on the Spree River provides the perfect canvas for our vision. Our architects and designers faced a formidable challenge: How do you transform a listed building into a flowing underwater world? The answer lies in illusion. We use state-of-the-art technology and organic forms to dissolve the harsh reality. Where sharp angles and edges once dominated, waves now flow.

A Floor of Light and Coral

The centerpiece of our Berlin interior design concept is the main hall. As soon as you enter this space, you leave solid ground behind. We have developed a unique floor covering: illuminated coral structures under glass, creating the impression of walking on the seabed. This effect is enhanced by an immersive lighting system. LED walls and projections simulate wave movements and light reflections found only underwater. This symbiosis of physical construction and digital art sets entirely new standards in Berlin interior design. It’s not just decoration—it’s a stage where you are the star.

Looking Up: Golden Waves

Another highlight that will be a talking point in the Berlin interior design scene is our ceiling. Instead of classic stucco elements or exposed pipes, we opted for golden ceiling waves. These sculptures capture the light from the projectors and gently reflect it back into the room. Oversized sea creatures and sculptures of mermaids and Poseidon stand guard over the room. These elements are not off-the-shelf items, but were crafted exclusively for The Blue Pearl by artists and artisans. This demonstrates that true interior design in Berlin always means craftsmanship.

Contrasts: The Captain’s Room

Good design thrives on contrast. That’s why we deliberately opted for a break in the design. While the main hall feels bright, flowing, and magical, the Captain’s Room is an homage to classic values. English style dominates this luxurious cigar and cognac room. Heavy Chesterfield furniture, dark wood paneling, and display cases filled with rarities create a maritime officer’s atmosphere. This room proves that interior design in Berlin can be multifaceted: only a door separates the futuristic underwater world from the refined elegance of a gentlemen’s club.

Attention to detail extends to the ladies‘ lounge

Often, design ends at the restroom door. Not with us. We believe that interior design in Berlin must be approached holistically. Our bathrooms are luxurious retreats. The ladies‘ salon, in particular, makes a statement: mother-of-pearl shell-shaped washbasins, golden mirrors, and a lighting concept reminiscent of a grotto transform „freshening up“ into an experience. Even here, we continue to tell the story of the ocean.

A new landmark for design lovers

With the opening of The Blue Pearl in 2026, the capital will gain another attraction. We demonstrate that interior design in Berlin can be bold. We combine history with imagination, concrete with light, and tradition with future technology. The transformation of the Swallow’s Nest proves that architecture can evoke emotions. We invite you to accompany this process and soon walk among our luminous coral.

Stay tuned – the transformation has only just begun.
